Description

Swivel hooks rather than clips. They fasten to belt loops or button tabs and pivot as you move, so the strap follows the shoulder instead of twisting against it, and there is no metal jaw biting down into the waistband and leaving a mark. The bands are 1.5 inches wide, polyester over elastic, and they meet in a Y at the back. Hooks are the older arrangement of the two and still the one most tailors will point you toward if a pair of pants has been made with buttons or tabs already fitted.

Heavy duty work is the intended use, but the color range is a good deal dressier than that suggests. Black, brown, khaki, beige, gray and blue will all sit under a suit jacket without drawing attention, which means the same pair can cover a shift and then a wedding without anyone noticing it has done both. Anyone who dislikes the way clips mark pants, or who has had a clip let go at an inconvenient moment in front of other people, tends to move across to hooks and stay there for good. Six shades is a modest range, but it is the right six, since work colors and dress colors overlap almost entirely at this end of the spectrum.

Because hooks need something to hook onto, check that your pants have loops or button tabs before choosing this over a clip-on pair. Once fitted they are more secure than clips and considerably quieter about it, with none of the sudden release that gives clips their reputation. Both straps adjust along their length, and the elastic gives as you bend and returns when you straighten back up.
