Description
Five pieces make up this costume set: elastic suspenders with PU leather ends, a polyester bow tie, a pair of adhesive cotton eyebrows, an adhesive cotton mustache and a pair of plastic glasses. Together they turn a child into a stock 1920s grandfather, which is the entire point of the thing. The suspenders and bow tie are wearable accessories in their own right. The mustache, eyebrows and glasses do the character work. The suspenders are elastic through their full length, with the PU leather used at the ends where the strain sits.
The obvious occasion is the 100th Day of School, where children dress as their hundred-year-old selves, and the set is assembled with that in mind. It also covers Halloween, a carnival, a school play or an afternoon of dress-up at home. Nothing here needs makeup or a trip to a costume shop. The facial hair sticks on, the glasses have no lenses to worry about, and the whole set goes on and comes off in a couple of minutes. Because the pieces are separate, a child can wear the suspenders and bow tie on their own afterwards, which is more use than most costume sets get. The glasses are light enough to stay on through a school day.
The bow tie strap adjusts, so it fits a range of neck sizes, and the suspenders are elastic, which handles the rest. Fit is forgiving by design, since a costume worn once or twice a year has to work for a child who has grown since the last outing. The mustache and eyebrows are adhesive and meant for the day itself. The rest of the set packs away for the next occasion.
