1.5-Inch Y-Back Leather Button-End Suspenders

Description

Button ends, six of them, in leather. Each strap of this Y-back pair finishes in a leather tab that buttons to the inside of a waistband, and eight buttons come with the pair for trousers that do not already have them. The webbing is 1.4 inches wide in 75 percent polyester and 25 percent elastic, with two heavy duty metal adjusters and wear-resistant synthetic leather at the joins. The buttons supplied match the leather tabs, so a pair of trousers can be set up for suspenders in an evening with a needle and thread.

Buttoned suspenders sit closer to the body than clipped ones, which is the reason to choose them. Under a shirt or a waistcoat the straps vanish, leaving nothing to catch on a jacket lining and no metal clip showing when you reach for something. That makes this a wedding, business and formal pair first, though it is perfectly usable worn over a shirt. Eleven colors are listed: black, brown, dark brown, navy, red, white, gray and gray blue among the plains, plus mint green, blue dot and black argyle. Mint green and the argyle are the two that get worn visibly, over a shirt, rather than hidden.

Adjustable length runs from 23.6 to 40 inches, which suits shorter frames as well as it does big and tall sizes. The Y shape distributes weight around the waist rather than concentrating it at two points, so it does not feel restrictive across a long day. The synthetic leather holds its shape and will not stiffen the way untreated leather can. Two adjusters rather than four keeps the hardware count low, which is one less thing to press through a shirt.
